Hurricane Shutters/Safety Film
Hurricane Shutters/Safety Film
Yes, the LEXAN XL-10 Clear Hurricane Shutters are virtually indestructible. They meet and exceed all “Impact Tests for the State of Florida, including the Miami-Dade County Impact Test.
Hurricane Glass Shield, Inc sells and installs the following sizes (inch width) 15, 21, 27, 33, 39, 45, 51, and 57. The shutters are overlapped to adapt to the width of the opening to be protected. The shutters come in virtually any length.
They are lighter and easier to install; are not sharp to the touch; will not break or be dented when struck by debris, which could require them to be replaced.
The shutters will withstand a hurricane wind speed force of in excess of 155 mph, which is the maximum speed for the current test requirements.
Generally speaking, flying debris may break the glass, but the adhesive strength and stretching characteristics of Safety Film will keep the broken glass in its frame maintaining the integrity of the glazing system.
No. Safety Film will reduce, but not eliminate fading. It will reduce up to 99% of ultra-violet radiation, which is a major cause of fading. Fading is a result of many other factors such as: 1) visible light, 2) heat and humidity, 3) age of fabric, 4) chemical vapors, and 5) dye fastness
Yes. It would take an abnormally large, heavy, and sharp object propelled at a very high velocity to cause glass that is protected with Safety Film to break and cause the integrity of the glazing system to fail.
Safety Film passes the Small Missile Impact Test (PA 201), Wind Cycle Loading Test (PA 203-94), and Uniform Structural Load Test (PA 202-94). t does not pass the Large Missile Impact Test
Yes we have used them before. They do not cost much and perform well.
1/8 meets code and you should overlap a minimum of 3/4 inch.
